As showcased in Logan’s 2024 Sea Otter coverage, the Ritchey P-29er has two-and-a-half decades of P-series heritage behind it. Ritchey P-series “project” bikes started around 1990, near the time the UCI officially recognized the mountain bike World Championships, and they’ve been XC-race-orientated ever since. The latest P-29er doesn’t stray far from its race-focused beginnings and is designed for tight, technical, cross-country singletrack.

The updated Ritchey P-29er is built up around Ritchey’s TIG welded, triple-butted Ritchey Logic steel tubing, a 73mm bottom bracket, and is optimized for a 100-120mm travel fork or 500mm axle-crown rigid fork. It has a replaceable stainless-steel derailleur hanger, boost hub spacing, external cable routing, internal dropper post routing, and two sets of bottle mounts on all sizes except for the small. In true XC fashion, the P-29er is stripped down to only the necessities, with no rack mounts or additional bosses.

The Ritchey P-29er has modern XC geometry and comes in four sizes. It has a 69.5° head tube angle (69° on size small), a 60mm bottom bracket drop, a 74° seat tube angle, 440mm chainstays, and a wheelbase length that ranges from 1098mm to 1154mm, depending on the size. The frame offers clearance for 29 x 2.3″ tires, uses a 27.2mm seatpost, and is designed around a 1x drivetrain.
