The Karate Monkey was one of the first production 29ers and is Surly’s most aggressive hardtail mountain bike, best suited for folks who want a versatile bike for all types of terrain. It’s a no-nonsense 4130 Chromoly steel frame that can be set up with a rigid fork or 140mm suspension fork. It also has a solid selection of mounting points for carrying gear, internal dropper post routing, clearance for 27.5 x 3.0″ and 29 x 2.5″ tires, and is designed to accommodate 1x and 2x drivetrains.
For 2024, the Surly Karate Monkey is available in two fresh colors: “Snow Mold White” and “Lost at Sea Blue.” Lost at Sea Blue is the color on the latest suspension-equipped complete, featuring a Shimano 1×12 drivetrain, a TranX dropper post, Tektro hydraulic brakes, and a RockShox 35 Gold RL fork. Snow Mold White is the color of the rigid-specific build and comes with a matching rigid fork, 12-speed drivetrain, and a rigid seatpost.
The suspension version costs $2,599 USD, and the rigid build costs $1,849. The Karate Monkey is also available as a frameset (frame + fork) in both colors for $999. Find everything you need to know about the latest Karate Monkey at SurlyBikes.com or head into your local dealer.
