The Orbea Alma is the Spanish brand’s new hardtail aimed at cross-country mountain bikers. Featuring an extraordinarily light frame and the company’s X-Fader vibration-damping technology, Orbea says it achieves a super smooth ride through tube shaping and a redesigned rear triangle. With the addition of their advanced carbon, the 2025 Orbea Alma claims the ability to muzzle the rough roads without much in the way of a weight penalty—the medium-sized frame weighs in at just 1,080 grams.

In addition to increasing the maximum tire clearance to 29 x 2.4,” the Orbea Alma’s higher end specs feature an integrated cockpit weighing in at just 265 grams. Other notable features include SmartClips—a bottle mounting system that foregoes metal inserts—allowing riders to insert dropper posts that much deeper, and a service window located on the downtube that provides easier access to internally routed cables. Designed around a 110mm fork, the Alma is the lightweight XC ripper made for fast days across rough terrain.

Having just dipped my toes into the world of cross country mountain bikes, this certainly looks like a machine I’d like to swing a leg over. And that’s not something I would’ve ever imagined saying just six months ago. It looks sleek, fast, nimble, and evokes a saying we Spaniards use pretty often when doing something that requires as much bravery as mountain biking—“Con todo el alma.” It loosely translates to—”give it beans, lad,” or “give it everything you’ve got.” Despite my hesitations about carbon, I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to give it everything I’ve got. I only wish they’d released an alloy version, as we’ve resolved to take on more affordable alloy offerings at the site this year.
