The Rivendell Clem Smith Jr., or Clem for short, is a big-tired commuter, trail bike, and utility rig that’s packed full of thoughtful features and beautiful details. Pre-orders for complete builds open today at noon PST. Find everything you need to know here…
Don’t let its step-thru frame and clean curves deceive you; the Rivendell Clem Smith Jr., commonly referred to as “Clem,” is a surprisingly capable bike. As Rivendell puts it, “Clem Smith Jr. is Rivendell’s fat-tire, easy to fender and rack, joyously upright and stable, and more affordable than the rest of our lineup bicycle frame.” It’s based around a curvy Taiwan-made steel frame with a timeless investment-cast fork crown and matching seat tube lug. It’s also packed full of clever little details not commonly found on production bikes.

The Rivendell Clem runs on quick-release axles with clearance for 2.3″ tires across the entire size range. Typically, both the 45cm and 52cm frame size (rider height 5’0 to 5’5″/5’5″ to 5’11”) use 27.5″ wheels, and the 59cm frame uses traditional 700c road or 29″ mountain bike wheels. According to Rivendell, since the low top tube eliminates standover issues, riders are free to size up if they can achieve the correct saddle height. “A lot of our customers and some staff have found that oversizing the Clems makes for a more luxurious ride.”
This pre-order is for complete Clem builds, which come pre-built directly from Taiwan. They feature a Rivendell Silver 2x crankset, Tektro 837AL V-Brakes, Silver hubs laced to Alex DM21 rims, Gravelking SKs 2.0 or 2.1″ tires, a Microshift Marvo rear derailleur, and a 11-34T cassette. Touch points include a Nitto Tallux Stem, Nitto Billie Bars, a basic saddle, and imitation ESI grips.
Pre-sales open today at noon PST, with two paint job options to pick from: Bronzey Green and Dark Gold. Complete bikes cost $2,400 USD and can be found at RivBike.com.
