A big congrats goes out to Alexandera Houchin who just became the first woman to cross the finish line in the 2021 Colorado Trail Race… on a singlespeed! Find details here…

A round of applause for Alexandera Houchin, who just finished the 2021 Colorado Trail Race, becoming the first woman to complete the race. And, in true Alexandera-fashion, she did so with just one gear. For all of you who were dot-watching, you’re probably wondering what became of Alexandera over the last couple of days. As we recently found out, she lost her tracker on the trail just before summiting Georgia Pass on Friday, effectively pausing her dot at mile 397 for the better part of 24 hours. We later got in touch in order to approximate what time she’d finish. Alexandera rolled into Waterton Canyon just over an hour ago, completing her ~525 mile ride in 6 days, 9 hours, and 5 minutes (6d:9h:5m), making her the women’s winner of the 2021 Colorado Trail Race.

This adds to Alexandera’s growing list of accomplishments over the last few years. We first connected with Alex back in 2018 when she attempted a yo-yo of the Colorado Trail and later became the first woman to finish the Smoke ‘n Fire race in Idaho. In 2019, she set a women’s singlespeed record on the Tour Divide and then went on to post her best time in the Colorado Trail Race, taking first place in the women’s category and setting a new women’s singlespeed course record: 6 days, 1 hour, and 34 minues (6d:1h:34m). In 2020 Alexandera completed an ITT of the Colorado Trail with a time of 6 days, 15 hours, 20 minutes (6d:15h:20m)—you can read her reflection of that ride here. And more recently, she set the women’s singlespeed record on the Arizona Trail 300.
