If you’ve been considering supporting our small team’s work by joining the Bikepacking Collective, today’s the day! The deadline to become a member and receive the 17th issue of The Bikepacking Journal is tonight at 11:59 p.m. ET. If you join after that, you’ll have to wait until spring 2027 to receive your first issue, and you’ll miss an issue bursting with the year’s best writing and photography across 160 colorful pages.

In keeping with our AI-free theme—and alongside the illustrated covers by Miguel Reis and hand-drawn maps by Alex Hotchin—all copies of the latest Journal will include a 13.75″ x 20″ (35cm x 51cm) fold-out “Anatomy of a Bikepacking Trip” watercolor poster by artist Chris McNally. Inspired by old board games, it follows an imaginary route and guides riders through the recurring themes of any trip: the endless climb, a questionable water source, the perfect campsite, mechanical gulch, hike-a-bike ridge, tailwind valley, and so forth. Created by one of our favorite artists, it’s one you won’t want to miss!

Like a good bikepacking trip, we believe some element of surprise only adds to the experience, so you’ll have to wait to see the full poster when your copy arrives in the mail. The same goes for the unfinished back cover teaser in the header image above, which will match the beautiful front cover, with elements taken from the recently published Lapiás Bikepacking Route in Portugal. It has yet to be colored in, and we can’t wait for our members to hold the finished issue in their hands this winter.
