Bags by Bird (BXB) in Tucson, Arizona, just released an updated version of their flap-opening handlebar bag, the Tail Grab, and it’s now available for pre-order. Check it out here…
A couple of years ago, Bags by Bird (BXB) in Arizona, owned and operated by Jay Ritchey, released their Lil’ Tail Grab and Big Tail Grab handlebar bags. I reviewed both of them here, but to summarize, the Tail Grab is a handlebar bag with a unique rider-facing flap opening that’s secured via a bungee around your bike’s stem. The smaller version has a stretchy front pocket, and the larger has a flap lid over the secondary pocket. Just like all of Jay’s bags, the Tail Grab has stayed close by and is one of my go-to bags for long day rides.

This morning, Jay announced an update to the Tail Grab, and while the overall functionality remains the same, the profile and shape is quite different. The new Tail Grab has the opening/flap pushed forward so it covers less of the handlebar, an issue I noted in my review, and the shape has been tweaked to offer more capacity. It still has a large stretchy front pocket, comes in two sizes, and he’ll be offering some versions with side pockets as well.
The 6″ tall version requires 7.5” of clearance from the bottom of the handlebar clamp down to the tire. It holds about 4.5 liters. The 8″ version requires 9.5” of clearance and holds about 5.7 liters. The Tail Grab includes two Voile Nano Straps, a lower 3/4″ cam strap, and two sets of foam spacers. It has an internal rigid body liner, comes in your choice of EcoPak or X-Pac fabric/color, and prices start at $105 USD.
The Tail Grab is available for pre-order now, and there are also a few ready-made options available on the BXB website. Check them out here or order your custom bag here.
