Just announced, the new Bearclaw Buck Macho is a do-it-all titanium hardtail with loads of mounting points, clearance for 29 x 2.8″ tires, sliding dropouts, and more. Find more details and images here…

It’s been a few years since we’ve seen a proper hardtail mountain bike from Michigan-based Bearclaw Bicycles. In 2020, they released their drop-bar fat bike called TŌWMAK alongside a hardtail named… HARDTAiL MOUNTAiN BiKE. It appears that hardtail is being replaced by the new Bearclaw Buck Macho, which was first debuted back in 2018 but has undergone a complete redesign that looks promising for trail riding and bikepacking.

Bearclaw Buck Macho

We’ll let Bearclaw provide the introduction: “Our founder, Chet Bearclaw, didn’t become a billionaire overnight. It was a Friday morning. He had just returned to earth after a short trip to Proxima B via the pineal gland. Without diving too deep into the details, Chet brought back with him an advanced perspective and this idea for a new hardtail MTB frame. He spoke, we listened. Buck Macho was born. Buck is the perfect do-it-all MTB frame. Name a thing and Buck does it well. Down the mountain? Yes. Up the mountain? Yes. Singletrack? Yes. Bikepacking? Yes. Buck does all of these things well, yes.”

Buck Macho Specs

  • 29er optimized trail geometry (29 × 2.5″ sweet spot!)
  • Horizontal sliding dropouts (single speed or many speeds compatible!)
  • Fits up to 29 × 2.8″ tires (with dropouts full forward!)
  • 3 bottle mounts (seat tube cage bolts will not interfere with dropper post insertion!)
  • Optimized for 120mm travel fork (130mm works)
  • 148×12 BOOST spacing (thru axle included)
  • 73mm BSA threaded bottom bracket
  • Rack mounts
  • Clearance for a 38T chainring
  • Internal cable routing
  • Ti-3Al-2.5V Titanium
  • Available as a frameset or custom complete build
  • Four sizes: S-XL

A quick glance at the geometry chart shows a 66° head tube angle, 75° seat tube angle, and a relatively long wheelbase. It falls into the made-up category of semi-rad hardtails, (think Esker Japhy, Panorama Taiga, Marin Pine Mountain, Mason Raw, etc.) but appears to have a shorter reach and much taller stack nearly across the board. We’d expect the Buck Macho to be as well-suited to rowdy trail riding as it is for comfortable loaded bikepacking.

For now, Bearclaw is offering the Buck Macho as a frame-only or custom complete build. They’re doing pre-orders only at this point with spring delivery. For those not ready to pull the trigger just yet, they plan to have open stock next summer/fall. Bearclaw will also be offering a stock GX AXS Eagle build on the site soon, similar to what you see above.

Frames cost $2,490 USD with a $1,000 deposit. You can call or email Bearclaw to start the process. Learn more at BearclawBicycleCo.com.
