Big Agnes just announced some updates to the Copper Spur UL Bikepack and Tiger Wall UL Bikepack tents, including the use of PFAS-free fabrics and a new waterproof stuff sack. Check them out here…
In 2018, Big Agnes was the first outdoor gear brand to offer a “bikepacking” version of its tents, starting with four “Bikepack” models in their UL (ultralight) tent series. That being said, some folks might credit the Sierra Designs Flashlight tent, released in the early 1980s, as one of the first lightweight tents to cater to cyclists. Since the Big Agnes release, we’ve seen bikepacking-specific shelters from Nemo, Sea to Summit, Big Sky International, and most recently, MSR. The Big Agnes Copper Spur UL and Tiger Wall UL tents are still two of the mose popular options for bikepackers, so we’re excited to see them get updated.

The first big change is the move to Big Agnes’ new Hyperbead fabric, a proprietary waterproof coating that contains no intentionally added PFAS chemicals, WRs, or C0 finishes, making it more durable and better for the environment. The coating is thinner than standard DWR, resulting in a lighter and stronger fabric, according to Big Agnes—6% lighter, 50 to 100% stronger, and 25% more waterproof than traditional tent fabrics. They’ve also updated the included bar-mount storage sack with a new waterproof material, modified strap slots, and TPU Voile-style straps.

Both tents still use the easily packable 12″ Shortstik Poleset, and the exterior daisy chain webbing on tent fly and body for gear drying and storage. Another new feature are the Wheelie Stake Out Loops to secure tent corners using your bike—which makes for an easy pitch in rocky conditions (only on the Tiger Wall UL Bikepack tents). The Copper Spur UL Bikepack ($520+) is freestanding and available in 1, 2, and 3-person versions. The Tiger Wall UL Bikepack ($479+) is semi-freestanding, weighs less, and is available in 1 and 2-person models.
