For the first time, Bombtrack is offering their Hook EXT gravel bike in a flat-bar setup complete with a SRAM SX Eagle drivetrain and 27.5 x 2.0″ rubber. Learn more about Bombtrack’s colorful new flat-bar Hook EXT here…

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen a brand release a flat-bar version of a drop-bar gravel bike. It doesn’t always work out, as the geometry of drop-bar bikes doesn’t always allow for a clean swap, usually requiring a longer stem at a minimum. However, to appease folks who prefer flat bars over drop, it’s a simple way to make it happen. Bombtrack has never offered a flat-bar complete build option of their Columbus Cromor steel gravel bike, the Hook, but that just changed.

The Bombtrack Hook EXT is now available in a flat-bar setup, based around a single well-rounded build kit. According to Bombtrack, the flat bar build was inspired by what they observed at events like the Veneto Trail and the Montenegro Mountain Madness, as well as many other all-terrain rides they’ve attended over the past seasons.

Here’s more from Bombtrack’s brand manager, Manuel Schuerholz: “We noticed a growing number of Hook EXT flat-bar conversions popping up online. Those definitely got us thinking. It’s a bit like what’s happening in the bikepacking race scene: drop bars seem to be slowly disappearing from many of these mixed-terrain events, unless it’s a pure gravel race, which tends to attract a different crowd riding aero carbon race bikes. But at events that sit somewhere between gravel-packing and mountain-bikepacking, flat bars simply offer more control and comfort. And that often translates into a faster pace. That said, drop bars are still a lot of fun, and since the heart of what we do has always been about the pure joy of riding, we’ll absolutely continue offering the EXT in various drop-bar builds as well.”

The Flat-Bar Hook EXT is built up around a SRAM SX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain, a Columbus Cromor double butted frame, WTB ST Light rims, and 27.5 x 2.0″ tires. It’s no surprise to see a healthy amount of Bombtrack-branded components, including hubs, seatpost, handlebar, saddle, and their very own carbon fork. Like the other Hook models, it has an internal dropper post port in the seat tube, external cable routing, three-pack fork mounts (despite some photos not showing them), top tube bosses, and mounts for racks and fenders. The Hook SX Eagle is available in a funky new splatter/fade paint job Bombtrack is calling “matte desert green,” and the complete build weighs in at 25.7 pounds (11.7 kilograms), which isn’t bad for a steel gravel bike. It’s available in five sizes (XS to XL) and costs $2,749 USD (€2,549). It’s not available as a frameset.
