Featuring a signature zipperless design, maker Jay Ritchey has added the BXB Piccolo Slim to his growing lineup of bikepacking bags. With 18 liters of storage, low-profile side pockets, and an expandable flap, this medium-sized bag has all the makings of a solid all-rounder…

A smaller sibling to the Goldback, the BXB Piccolo Slim is Jay Ritchey of Bags By Bird’s latest take on a medium handlebar bag. The Slim 11W version is the same as the regular Piccolo 11W except it uses slimmer side pockets and a narrower lid, measuring out at about 13” wide. The total capacity of 18 liters and other dimensions between the Slim and regular Piccolo remain the same.

Per Jay, the BXB Piccolo Slim’s side pocket is borrowed from backpacking side pockets designed to be low-profile when not in use but can expand to carry items like a water bottle. They use a replaceable and adjustable stretchy shock cord to close the top, which is easy to open in a pinch and snaps closed when not in use. The pockets also feature a water drainage hole at the bottom to keep things nice and dry. The side pockets are made from Ultragrid fabric.

Retailing at $225 USD and available in all kinds of fabric options, the BXB Piccolo Slim seems like a good option for both light bikepacking trips and big day rides. Stay tuned for my full thoughts on this fun little bag soon.
