CHUMBA, a small framebuilder brand in Austin, Texas, just released a brand-new model. They approached the all-new CHUMBA SLACKR with the intention of completing their MTB lineup by adding a capable trail hardtail that’s fun and progressive but still has the same long-ride DNA their customers appreciate. Essentially, they wanted to go with a slacker option for riders seeking a playful trail bike but for it to remain comfortable throughout a long day of pedaling. Read on for details.

The CHUMBA SLACKR is fabricated in-house using 3/2.5 domestic Titanium tubing. The frame features their custom 3D-additive “Space Yoke” and PMW sliding dropouts. It’s available in six sizes and accommodates a 36T chainring and any 29 x 2.6″ tire. Find the full set of features from CHUMBA below.

  • Rack mounts: Compatible with Old Man Mountain racks, a USA-made thru-axle mounted rack that can hold up to 70lbs. It is more secure for the rack and cargo, and it better protects the frame than a traditionally mounted rack.

CHUMBA hasn’t yet released the full geometry chart, but we do know that with a 150mm fork (unsagged) it has a 64.5º head tube angle and a 75º effective seat tube angle when the fork is unsagged. That makes the headtube angle about 66º sagged. This seems like a good recipe, in my opinion, as sometimes seat tube angles that are too steep can be a little uncomfortable. The front center on the SLACKR is longer than the Sendero, and the fit numbers yield about a 10-15mm shorter stem goal.
