For Collective Reward #073, one member of our Bikepacking Collective will receive their choice of any two tires from Rene Herse Cycles. There’s perhaps no one more geeky about bicycle tire development than Jan Heine of Rene Herse Cycles (formerly Compass Cycles), and he’s been consistently launching interesting and innovative tires in recent years, several of which we’ve featured here on the site.

Recently, Logan and Neil both tested and loved the 29 x 2.2″ Rene Herse Fleecer Ridge tires, which were developed in collaboration with Lael Wilcox (see our full review). And I’ve been very impressed with the 700 x 42mm Hurricane Ridges during my first couple weeks of running them on mixed surface rides here in Germany.

  • Rene Herse Fleecer Ridge Review, Tour Divide Tire
  • Bombtrack Hook EXT TI, Bombtrack Hook EXT Titanium, Rene Herse Hurricane Ridge

Our winner can choose any set of tires from the Rene Herse catalog, which includes road tires, gravel tires, all-road tires, and adventure tires in 700C/29″, 650B/27.5″, and 26″ sizes, plus four different casings and multiple color options. Visit Rene Herse Cycles to check out the full line of tires, as well as their range of other components and equipment.

Jan and Lael Talk Tire Development

Back in May, we hosted a live chat with Jan Heine and Lael Wilcox to talk about the development of the Fleecer Ridge tire. It was a wide-ranging and engaging conversation that’s well worth watching if you haven’t done so yet. See the full hour-long conversation below.
