We’re giving away an ultralight Timmermade SUL 1.5 Down Sweater for our 135th Collective Reward. Learn more about Dan Timmerman’s handmade garments and gear and how to get signed up for a chance to win one of his custom-tailored down jackets here…

Made by hand in Trumansburg, New York, Timmermade’s SUL (super ultralight) series of garments are purpose-built to push weight and packability as far as possible without compromising function. Akin to a knit sweater, they don’t have pockets, zippers, or additional webbing, and are stripped down to offer the most optimized weight-to-warmth ratio possible. Miles shared his review of the Timmermade SUL 1.5 Down Sweater around this time two years ago (he’s been wearing it ever since), and today we’re excited to be giving one to a randomly selected member of our Bikepacking Collective, a $280 value for our winner.

In addition to choosing from one of 10 colors, the lucky member who receives this ultralight down sweater will be able to specify custom sizing details to ensure a perfect fit, a bespoke option that’s available for most of Timmermade’s products for a small upcharge and something that sets the small brand apart. The SUL 1.5 Down Sweater is made of a lightweight Argon 67 ripstop nylon and insulated with Responsible Down Standard (RDS) certified Hyperdry 900 fill power goose down that’s treated with a fluorocarbon-free water-repellent coating to help keep you warm when it’s wet. The SUL 1.5’s unique design minimizes cold spots by increasing the space between baffles and using a single vertical seam down the front of the jacket.

Timmermade puts the weight of the jacket at 6.4 ounces for a size medium, which includes around 3.8 ounces of down. The SUL 1.5 packs down to about the size of a 22-ounce water bottle, and based on his extensive testing, Miles says his is incredibly warm, writing, “I can confidently say this is a four-season down sweater, and just to confirm, that’s four seasons in Canada. I’m not kidding when I say I’ve never owned a jacket this warm… If I needed to put a number to it, I wouldn’t be surprised if the SUL 1.5 continued to keep me warm in full on winter conditions; 5°F to -4°F (-15°C to -20°C) is definitely not out of the question.” You can find more details about the SUL 1.5 and Timmermade’s range of other apparel and gear at Timmermade.com.
