Following our recent review of the small brand’s freestanding one-person shelter, we’re giving away a feature-rich SlingFin Portal 1 for our 187th Collective Reward. Find details, peek at the new color, and learn how to win this or one of many other prize packages here…

Your choice of shelter can make or break a bikepacking trip when the weather turns, and Neil found an ultra-cozy home away from home in the SlingFin Portal 1 tent while testing it on a handful of getaways around the stormy Southwest this spring. With the Portal 1 earning his seal of approval, we’re excited to give one in the new Green/Brown color to a randomly selected member of the Bikepacking Collective, a $490 value for our lucky winner. If you missed Neil’s detailed video review, find a quick overview below.

SlingFin’s Portal 1 is a lightweight, single-person, single-door, three-season freestanding tent. It comes with a body, fly, 10 stakes, and eight guy lines, and it’s made with a cross-pole hubless system using two sets of straight DAC Featherlite poles. Packed up, the tent measures just 13.5″ (34cm) long and weighs 2 pounds and 12 ounces, easily packing inside any handlebar roll or top-opening bag. The body is constructed from a 15-denier nylon No-See-Um mesh with a bathtub-style floor made from PE-coated 20-denier nylon. The fly is made from a silicone-coated 10-denier 66 ripstop nylon, which SlingFin opted for because of its superior abrasion and UV resistance.

Neil found setting up the Portal 1 to be quick and intuitive. Inside, the tent’s footprint offers 88 x 35″ of space with a generous 41″ height. Even his 6’4″ friend was able to fit comfortably, and Neil said it’s easily one of the roomiest one-person tents he’s tried thanks to its clever wall and pole designs. A 34″ vestibule provides ample space for storing bags and other gear out of the elements, and the full-mesh upper made sleeping without the fly a dream on clear nights.
