Released just last week, the all-new Tailfin Bar Bag System is an innovative handlebar hauler built around a CNC-machined bar mount and the brand’s X-Clamp quick-release cam. There are four sizes of front rolls available to suit bikes with both flat bars and drop bars. Several of us from the BIKEPACKING.com tested the new bag system throughout several months ahead of our in-depth review, concluding that they’re exceptionally stable and sturdy, ideally sized, and uniquely user-friendly. We’re excited to give one to a randomly selected Bikepacking Collective member for Collective Reward 198, up to a $330 value for our winner.

There are two flat-bar bags and two drop-bar-specific bags Tailfin’s new range, all four of which are made with the brand’s signature black fabric combo, which includes welded Hypalon and coated Ripstop Nylon. This makes the bags completely waterproof with no leaky seams. At the heart of the Tailfin Bar Bag System is a new three-piece CNC-machined aluminum alloy handlebar mount designed to provide a broad range of adjustability and positioning. It rotates on two axes to accommodate varius bikes and front-end configurations. The Tailfin X-Clamp is an impeccably engineered quick-release cam-lock system that’s easy to engage and keeps the roll firmly anchored and totally silent over rough terrain. The bags feature a built-in CNC-machined aluminum cage that provides structure and secures to the X-Clamp.

The Bar Bag System is rated to carry 8 kilograms (17.6 pounds) for road use and 4 kilograms (8.8 pounds) off-road, which should accommodate most storage needs. Logan hauled a three-person tent, a 30°F down quilt, an oversized wide sleeping pad, and an inflatable pillow in his. The bags close using Tailfin’s smart new WaveLock closure system, which allows the roll-top ends to fold inward, minimizing the width of the bag to eliminate interference with hands on the hoods or in the drops. Outside, there’s additional storage via external stretchy mesh pockets, which are accessible even when the bag is fully compressed. The total capacity ranges from 9.1 to 18.9 liters, depending on bag style and size. Several accessory mounts are available to attach lights, a GPS, a GoPro, and so forth. Our winner can also choose from all available accessories. Learn more about the Bar Bag System at Tailfin.cc.
