The new Cotic Cascade Gen 2 is now made in small batches in Portugal with size-specific tube specs, options for custom paint, UDH dropouts, and more. Find all the details and photos here…
First released in 2022, the Cotic Cascade is a versatile drop-bar 29er that takes full advantage of Cotic’s obsession with steel. Logan reviewed the original two years ago (pictured below), praising its stable geometry, excellent tire clearance, solid selection of mounting points, and quality build kit. We wondered when Cotic would release an updated version, and that day is here. The first batch is already being delivered to customers, and Cotic is ready for the next production run of the updated Cascade Gen 2.
The most significant update is the shift from Taiwan production to Portugal, which has given them greater flexibility in order times and sizes. Smaller orders mean customers will see different delivery dates depending on size and color. The front triangle is still made from Reynolds 853 chromoly steel, but it’s now being built up around size-specific diameters to maintain ride feel across the range. As a result of moving to EU production, Cotic is now offering custom paint jobs on a select number of models, including the Cascade Gen 2. You can learn more about the “A La Carte” paint option here. The standard color options are Army Green or Damson.
Other updates include tweaked sizing, based on customer feedback, which should increase rider comfort on long rides. The frame now features a 44mm straight head tube, cable run under the downtube, and it now comes specced with a SRAM UDH dropout. Otherwise, specs like boost hub spacing, big tire clearance (29 x 2.6″ or 27.5 x 3.0″ in the fork, 29 x 2.4″ or 27.5 x 2.8″ in the frame), a 31.6mm seatpost with internal dropper post routing, and all the mounting points you could ever need carry over from Gen 1 to Gen 2.
Most of the first batch is already sold out, and Cotic is working through those builds right now. There are a few frames available, and build slots are being offered for the third batch, which should be delivered mid-December, with batch four scheduled for mid-February. Framesets start at £1,349 (~$1,600 USD), and bikes start at £2,729 (~$3,200 USD). All prices shown for outside the UK do not include local taxes or duties. Cotic is offering flat-bar and drop-bar builds, with several drivetrain/parts tiers, depending on what you’re after. They’ll also work with customers on custom builds, if you’re looking for something specific.
