Crumbworks in Japan just shared some details on a prototype all-road frame that uses Ritchey’s break-away couplers to enable it to pack down small for travel. Check out the forthcoming Crumbworks “Breakaway” here…
Two years ago, Crumbworks in Japan teased photos of its first house-branded bicycle, the Chunk. It stirred up a lot of discussion here on the site, and I eventually purchased a frame of my own and pieced together a build that I reviewed this winter (find it linked below). We figured it was only a matter of time before another model was released, and it looks like that day could be coming soon.

Crumbworks posted some teaser photos of their next bicycle, and it looks just as unique as the Chunk. While specs and features are expected to change slightly, here’s what we know so far. The upcoming Crumbworks “Breakaway” (the final name hasn’t been decided on) uses Ritchey’s couplers at the top tube/seat tube and downtube/seat tube junctions to pack down small for travel. It features a 1″ head tube, 68mm English (BSA) Threaded bottom bracket, and 12mm thru-axles. The frame has dropper post routing, uses a 27.2mm seatpost, and is specced for flat-mount disc brakes.
Right now, Crumbworks is expecting tire clearance for 700 x 48mm tires, it has rack and fender mounts, and there’s internal dynamo routing. The included fork has three-pack mounts on each fork leg, and the fork and frame are made from fillet-brazed chromoly steel, just like the Chunk.
The Crumbworks “Breakaway” will be available in five frame sizes (48, 52, 55, 58, 62cm) and made to order by Osamu Fukuda at Raizin Works in Japan, a master bike builder with nearly four decades of experience and a reputation for the highest-quality craftsmanship in OEM and custom builds. That’s all we know for now, but we’ll be sure to share more when Crumbworks opens up orders. Until then, give Crumbworks a follow on Instagram to stay in the loop.
