After one of the sunniest and driest summers on record, Scotland welcomed the Highland Trail 550 grand depart with cold temperatures, strong winds, and a lot of rain. Early on in the race, it dropped as low as 37°F (3°C) at night, which created a dangerous combination. About a third of the riders at this year’s event have already scratched from the event—the weather likely playing a significant role—but Dicky Hibbert from South Wales didn’t let the harsh conditions slow him down. Late Tuesday evening (local time), Dicky arrived at the finish in Tyndrum, completing the course in 3 days, 14 hours, 58 minutes.

Donnie and Richie, aka the Whisky Trail Angels, found their way to the finish line to greet Dicky alongside a small group of dot watchers and snap a few photos. Dicky reported, “the weather was really tough, which made the race even more challenging. I had some knee issues and I honestly thought I might have to scratch. But I managed to push through, and I’m absolutely delighted to come away with the win.”

Despite the challenging conditions, Dicky was only 7 hours behind Angus Young’s 2023 record-setting ride, and 9 hours behind Alex McCormack’s more recent record of 3 days, 5 hours, and 27 minutes. Dicky is no stranger to big efforts, taking second place at the 2025 Dales Divide earlier this spring and first at the 2024 Headstock 500. Dicky took an early lead in the race, found himself riding closer to Manu Cattrysse and Tomas Novotny around the halfway point, and finally pulled away last night to hold his position for the win. Congrats Dicky!

There are nearly 40 riders still out on the route, including Emma Bateup, who’s currently the first-place woman sitting in 7th overall. Head over to the Event Tracker linked below to follow their progress live.
