After years of development, the Dispersed Bikepacking Dropper Seat Bag is now available. It boasts several interesting features, including a removable inner dry bag, an aluminum stiffener that doubles as a trowel, and a foolproof one-strap design. Check out the new Dispersed Dropper Seat Bag here…

Based out of an off-grid cabin at the foot of the La Sal Mountains in Utah, Dispersed Bikepacking is owned and operated by Katie and Andrew Strempke. The duo has set several race records and impressive ultra-endurance finishes over the years, and their growing lineup of bikepacking bags is purpose-built to handle the demands of ultra-endurance riding, singletrack, and bikepacking. They’re are tested on multi-day rides and races to ensure they hold up on the most demanding routes.

The latest addition to the Dispersed Bikepacking bag range is their first dropper-post-compatible seat bag, aptly named the Dropper Seat Bag. According to Andrew, “years of development and refinement has gone into this seat bag to meet our standards for weight, stability on singletrack, and ease of use.” Instead of multiple adjustable straps like most seat packs, the Dispersed Dropper Seat Bag uses a single strap to cinch it up tight under the saddle. The cords on the side of the bag wrap around the saddle rails, over a small carbon rod, and secure to a second carbon rod, which is then cinched tight using a webbing strap and US-made Austere buckle. “We wanted it idiot-proof, for us, the idiots riding through the desert at 3 a.m.”

For stability and structure, a laser-cut/bent aluminum stiffener slides into the bottom of the bag, ensuring it’s stable on the roughest trails. As a bonus, the stiffener is designed to double as a trowel for digging cat holes in the wild. Weighing 43 grams (1.5 ounces), it’s a touch heavier than other ultralight trowels, but Andrew claims the rounded edges are easy on the hands, and it’s big enough to accommodate two hands.

Like the Dispersed Handlebar Roll I reviewed, the Dropper Seat Bag features a waterproof inner dry bag that slides out of the water-resistant outer bag. This allows the user to take the contents to their shelter while the outer bag stays installed on their bike. Installation happens once, the inner bag is protected, and gear can be compressed more easily while off the bike.

Each Dropper Seat Bag is made to order and can be customized using a wide range of Ecopak or Ultra fabric colors. The base of the bag is made from super-tough Ultra 800 to protect against accidental tire rub. The Ultra version weighs 255 grams (9 ounces), and the Ecopak model weighs 285 grams (10 ounces). It’s on the small side as far as seat bags go, holding just 5L of gear, and it requires at least 6″ of clearance between the rear tire and the saddle rails. Prices range from $175 to $205, depending on the material, and the current lead time for handmade gear is six weeks.
