The Arizona Trail Association, PeopleForBikes, and the Back Country Horsemen of America have teamed up to fund a research study about electric bicycle (e-bike) use on trails—and want to hear from you! Find the short questionnaire here…

There’s no question that e-bikes have found their way into the cycling community, as they provide riding opportunities for people who would be less likely or unable to ride a non motor-assisted bike. However, e-bikes on mountain bike trails is another, multi-layered and contentious topic, and the laws and regulations surrounding e-bikes are inconsistent and confusing. For example, in the United States, e-bike laws are different in every state, which can flummox consumers, retailers, and suppliers alike—see a visual breakdown of the different state laws below.

Everyone benefits from clear rules, which is why the new study from The Arizona Trail Association, PeopleForBikes, and the Back Country Horsemen of America could be a step in the right direction. They want users of the Arizona Trail to take five minutes to fill out an online questionnaire before May 10th, 2020, in order to help define future regulations regarding e-bikes on the Arizona Trail. Have some input to offer? Find the online questionnaire here.
