Back in August, a small group of friends—three seasoned bikepackers and one first-timer—set out on a challenging bikepacking overnighter in the beautiful Muskoka region of Ontario, Canada. Along the way Josh White made this film to document his experience as a first-time bikepacker.

Our friend and Bikepacking Journal contributor Paulo LaBerge (@crankngrind) sent over this video by Josh White, who made it while on his first bikepacking trip with Paulo earlier this summer. Paulo and Josh were accompanied by three others, including route contributor John Duffet, who published the Newfoundland T’Railway last year. The five set off into the Muskoka region of Ontario, Canada for an overnight bikepacking trip. Watch the film documenting Josh’s experience below alongside a few black-and-whites from Paulo…

According to Paulo, the route is roughly ~65KM and consists of about 90% gravel, logging roads, and rough ATV trails. The loop takes riders through a large part of the Hindon Forest in Ontario and the pristine woodlands of the Bigwind Lake Provincial Park. The loop is called ‘The Bigwind-Hindon Grinder’ and Paulo has been planning it for some time, having ridden variations of it on three different occasions with co-creator Bert Schuh. Watch for it on our Local Overnighter route map.
