Tired of the post-ride lung workout to blow up your inflatable sleeping pad? Weighing just 34 grams (1.2 oz.) at the size of a Snickers bar, the new Flextail Zero Pump is a compact mini pump can inflate a sleeping pad in less than a minute. Find details here…
I typically overlook products like this. I mean, why carry another cheap electronic gadget that you have to charge and keep up with, especially when it’s something you don’t truly need? Nowadays, most sleeping pads come with a pump sack that saves time and lung power, and inflating my sleeping pad isn’t that big of a deal to me, even though it’s a long/wide model. However, I found the new Flextail Zero Pump somewhat intriguing, primarily due to its size and weight. And I often wonder how much funk is growing inside my pad after breathing into it hundreds of times.
Flextail has a history of producing portable pumps, but they boldly claim that the Zero Pump is “the smallest and lightest air pump for ultralight outdoor sleeping pads in the world.” As demonstrated in their IndieGoGo campaign, which is now funded at 7327% with nearly a month left, it’s smaller than a Snickers bar and measures only 1.02 x 2.95 inches (2.6 x 7.5 centimeters). Besides its compact size and weight, what makes the Flextail Zero Pump even more appealing is that it comes with six rubber nozzles to work with valves on pads from Therm-a-Rest, Klymit, Nemo, Sea To Summit, Big Agnes, and Exped.
The Zero Pump utilizes a patented micro-motor powered by a single 650mAh RCR123a rechargeable battery. You can purchase these batteries with a charging dock or apparently with a built-in USB-C port. It doesn’t seem that there is a built-in port on the device itself, however. Flextail claims that a single battery charge can provide up to 25 uses.
You can still reserve a Flextail Zero Pump on their IndieGoGo page for $36, which includes a RCR123a battery, a lanyard, and the six-piece nozzle set. Find it here.
