Four Dog Stoves Offers Minnesota-Made Lids for Snow Peak Mugs

While making morning coffee on a recent overnighter in the mountains above Boulder, I took notice of the well-worn lid on a friend’s titanium Snow Peak mug as he was boiling water on his camp stove. When I mentioned that I didn’t realize Snow Peak makes lids, he told me that it’s actually an aftermarket product he came across on an ultralight hiking forum. Turns out the charming little lid is from Four Dog Stoves in the small town of St. Francis, Minnesota, which is owned and operated by married couple Roxanne and Don Kevilus.

After making a prototype lid for a friend, Don received quite a lot of interest from folks around the backpacking community, and he decided to start manufacturing them in several sizes. All lids are made from titanium and come backed by a lifetime guarantee on workmanship. On the Four Dog site, Don writes, “Boy, are they tough. Don’t let their light weight fool you!” My friend has been using his for a couple of years now, and it’s holding up well, other than the obvious burn damage on the handle, the result of a mishap while he was trying to boil water on a fire. It only adds to its character, in my opinion.

Four Dog sells the little lids to suit a variety of mugs, bowls, and pots from Snow Peak (SP 450, SP 600, SP 700, SP 900, SP 1400, SP Bowl Lid) and Olicamp (Space Saver Mug, XTS Pot, GSI Haulite Minimalist). They cost between $16 and $20, depending on the product they’re designed to fit, and that price includes shipping in the United States.
