Bits & Bobs
New products that are worth highlighting but didn’t make the Dispatch…
Rogue Panda Steel-Frame-Specific Spacers
Included with Bags at Rogue Panda
The Alamo and Catalina top tube bags now come with a new spacer designed specifically for steel bikes and other frames with round top tubes. The updated design increases contact area between the bag and frame for a more secure, stable fit, while the original spacer remains the recommended option for most carbon and aluminum bikes. Both spacers are now included with every new Alamo and Catalina bag, and existing owners can request a set for the cost of shipping or have one added to their next order at no extra charge.
Fairlight Holt 2.0 Updates
£920+ at Fairlight Cycles
Fairlight announced a new color for its Holt 2.0 frames earlier this week, along with new build options. In addition to the white-and-black paint job, the brand now offers the 34 SL Float Factory GRIP SL 120mm fork and SRAM Eagle 90 Transmission drivetrains in its custom build configurations. Per the brand, most customers have asked for mechanical drivetrains, so they’re glad to replace their AXS option with a cable-actuated setup. Hear, hear! See the in-depth PDF here.
SURLY × BLUE LUG 20th Steamroller
¥132,000 at Blue Lug
Celebrating two decades in business, Japan’s Blue Lug bike shop teamed up with Surly Bikes to create a special edition of the recently revived Surly Steamroller frameset in a lovely Boston Baked Beans color that pays tribute to the original 2011 Steamroller. It’ll officially launch on Monday, November 2nd, which just so happens to be International Singlespeed Day.
Silca Acquires Omata
Made in Japan / $800 at Omata
Eight years ago, Omata launched the world’s only mechatronic cycling computer. While they took the internet and bike world by storm, they fell by the wayside over time. Now, Silca has acquired the intellectual property rights to this device and has started stocking it. They’re not cheap, and they don’t do everything a much more affordable cycling computer can do, but they’re a unique, semi-analog piece of gear that stands out.
Next Generation of Polartec Alpha Active
Made in USA at Polartec
Polartec announced the next generation of its popular Polartec Alpha Active insulation with a patent-pending construction designed to improve durability without sacrificing the lightweight warmth, breathability, quick-drying performance, and packability that have made it a favorite for high-output activities like cycling and bikepacking. Originally developed for military applications, the updated fabric promises greater resistance to snagging and shedding while expanding the range of weights, textures, and constructions available to apparel designers, including standalone garments. Developed over four years of collaboration and testing, the new Alpha will appear in products from more than 11 brands, including Patagonia, Ornot, Senchi Designs, Farpointe, and others, beginning in late 2026.
2027 Salsa Beargrease
Made in Taiwan / $1,999-$5,999 at Salsa
Salsa unveiled its latest Beargrease fat bike, featuring updated trail geometry, increased tire clearance, and new frame and fork options. Built for everything from groomed winter singletrack and ultra-endurance racing to year-round backcountry adventures, the revamped Beargrease gets a longer wheelbase, a slacker head tube angle (65.6 degrees), and a steeper seat tube angle for a more stable, centered ride. It’s optimized around massive 27.5 x 4.5″ tires and is available with either a carbon fiber or 6061-T6 aluminum frame, paired with new Bearpaw forks. Other updates include three bottle mounts on sizes small through extra-large, direct-mount frame bag provisions, and SRAM UDH compatibility. Five options are available, ranging from the $1,999 Beargrease AL Eagle 70 to the $5,999 Beargrease C GX AXS, with a carbon frameset offered for $1,999.
Avalanche Quatre Stem
Made in Paris, France / €250 at Avalanche Cycles
Paris-based Avalanche Cycles’ new Quatre stem caught our attention on Instagram last weekend. The brand makes this handmade stainless steel stem in its Paris workshop, and it’s now available in a brushed stainless steel finish that highlights its exposed silver welds. The first batch comes in a 90mm length with a -6° angle, a 52mm stack height, and compatibility with 31.8mm handlebars. Avalanche specs it as a road stem, but it’s been spotted on several of the frame builder’s gravel/rando bikes.

What Are You Done Accepting?
In Miles’s Cut List, he shared a few bike-related frustrations he’s no longer willing to accept, from tiny, easily stripped bolt heads and obnoxiously loud hubs to increasingly expensive bikes. It got us thinking about all the little annoyances we’ve come to tolerate simply because “that’s the way it is.” We’d love to hear from you: What’s one thing about bikes, components, or gear that you’ve put up with for years but are finally ready to say enough is enough? Lucas Winzenburg: Utah (Again)
Despite having visited the exact area and traveled some of the same roads only a year and a half ago, I haven’t stopped thinking about returning to Utah to ride Constantin Schutt’s Beef, Needles, and Elephants bikepacking route since we posted it in August. The Needles District of Canyonlands National Park is one of the most spectacular places I’ve ever visited, with endless slot canyons, side trails, and rock shelters to explore. The area party inspired my piece, The Beauty of Not Pedaling, and I can’t wait to get back there to ride the route.
