While small, stashable tools and repair kits have gained quite a bit of momentum in the mountain bike world, they’ve been a little slower to gain traction on gravel and road bikes. Granite Design aims to change this by building upon their line of other stow-away tools and kits with the new Stash RCX Multi-tool. Similar to One Up’s EDC tool, the Stash system houses a small multi-tool in the bike’s steerer tube and allows easy access to the multitool at the stem’s top cap. However, unlike One Up’s solution, the Stash RCX doesn’t require threading the steerer as can work with either carbon or alloy steerer tubes, oh almost any modern drop-bar bike.
The Stash multi-tool has 10 functions including 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6mm hex keys, a T25 Torx key, a flathead screwdriver, four spoke key options, and a valve core remover. And at just 110g for the complete system, the Granite RCX is fairly lightweight.
According to Granite, the RCX can be fitted quickly and easily with nothing more than a 5mm hex key, and doesn’t require tapping or threading your steerer tube. Simply remove the star-nut from your fork and replace it with the RCX’s compression plug. Granite claims that once installed, the plug provides a secure mounting point for the RCX tool.
