Hunter Cycles’ new rear rack has been in development since 2021 and features an axle-mounted attachment, clearance for 29+ tires, and a modular and collapsible design for easy transport. Check out the Hunter Cycles Cargo Rack here…
Owned and operated by long-time framebuilder and tinkerer Rick Hunter, Hunter Cycles now mainly focuses on limited edition batches of components and accessories. It’s been a while since there’s been a new offering from Hunter, so we were pleased to see a new rear rack released this week.

The new Cargo Rack from Hunter Cycles is a thru-axle-mounted rear rack that has been in development since 2021, according to Rick. It’s based on a minimal top platform, two U-shaped legs, and a lower axle mount that attaches to cargo axles, such as Old Man Mountain’s offerings. The top platform has multiple positions for the removable legs, and the whole rack can pack flat for shipping/transport. The two vertical leg struts are designed to mimic a cargo cage, eliminating the need for additional mounts/cages to carry extra water or gear. Little strap retention nubs on the legs help keep straps in place, and built-in cage foots support whatever cargo is strapped onto them.

The Hunter Cycles Cargo Rack is made from Chromoly steel tubing and features a fillet-brazed construction. The top deck is 4″ wide and 12″ long. The weight of the rack is 575 grams (20.2 ounces) as pictured, with no axle or seat stay struts. Neither axles nor upper mounting hardware are included, so it’s up to you to DIY something, purchase hardware, or ask your local bike shop to get something that will work with your specific setup. The rack has clearance for up to 29 x 3.0″ tires but works fine with smaller wheels/tires as well.
The rack is available in powder-coated black or neon yellow in limited quantities. It costs $275 USD and is handmade in Tulare County, California. Grab yours at Hunter Cycles.
