The Primos Mono ATB is a new budget-focused offering from the small bike company in Portland, Oregon. With clearance for 27.5 x 2.4″ tires, hydraulic brakes, a microSHIFT drivetrain, and a double-butted 4130 frame, this looks like a solid entry-level option for bikepackers…
The latest model from the small but mighty bike company out of Portland, Oregon, is the Primos Mono ATB. Garnering quite a bit of attention last year through the release of their Dame model, the Primos Mono is an even more capable ATB-style platform consistent with the hallmarks of the small brand. Focusing on affordable, approachable steel options, founders Carlos and Pasqual have conjured up an interesting package with their new ATB. As with the Dame, the Primos Mono ATB seems like an extremely valuable option given the price and spec.

With the distinct lack of a bikepacking middle class, it’s nice to see a smaller and newer brand focus on affordability first. Where we’ve seen brands cut some corners in the past with regard to important but often overlooked elements of the build kit, the Primos Mono ATB seems to have everything a beginner bikepacker might need in order go on a few trips without feeling like they’re in dire need of an upgrade. Shimano’s MT-200 hydraulic brakes are some of the most beloved budget brakes out there, and microSHIFT’s Advent X system leaves little to be desired.

Though their original Dame gravel bike now comes in four sizes (S-XL), the Primos Mono ATB only comes in two size offerings at the moment (M and L). With a suggested rider height that spans a solid range, it’s smaller rides who might feel left out on this one. That said, a suggested height range from 5’5″ to 6’3″ across both sizes covers most average heights, and, if the Mono is successful, it should be produced in a more complete size range.

Retailing at $799 USD for a complete (roughly $850 with shipping), it’s hard to ignore the value given whats on offer here. Available in two colors, Amazonian Blue and Dusty Rose, there’s a solid color palette to build on. With a decent number of rack and fender mounts through a fork that maintains a classic, bi-plane look but with the versatility of three-pack mounts, we’re excited to see what people do with what appears to be a great platform for adventure riding and bikepacking.
