This Weekend Snapshot connects rides around two corners of Europe and the West Coast of the U.S. Find reader-submitted scenes from a few folks who recently got out for some time on the bike and use the quick form to share a shot from one of your rides here…

From a quick overnighter to a nearby state park in Washington to a spin up into the Swiss Alps and a journey across Germany, today’s installment of Weekend Snapshot highlights three unique approaches to bikepacking. Start your week with a look back at what three fellow readers were up to over the weekend, followed by some related posts for further inspiration and a short form you can use to submit a vignette from one of your rides below.

The initial “mild showers” forecast for my first overnighter of the year took an unexpected turn high up on the mountain. Pitched the tent at 2,000 metres, expecting rain’s familiar tap but awoke instead to the gentle hush of falling snow. This incredible, snowed-in landscape was my morning view, a perfect, albeit chilly, gear test for a bigger adventure in Norway above the Arctic Circle in July.

Germany

Weekend Snapshot

By Thomas Swoboda

Last year, my friend Benedikt suggested to plan a route from Cologne, where I live, to Neustadt an der Weinstraße, where he lives. A couple of weeks ago, he told me he would have to move soon because of a different job, so we had to make it happen before that. We set off Friday afternoon after a long working day and covered almost a third of the 250-kilometre route by the Rivers Ahr, Moselle, and Rhine. After a cold night under the stars, we set off early the following morning. We passed by countless vineyards in the Palatinate region, where the photo was taken.
