In this short video, the Florida Cycling YouTube Channel highlights why the HuRaCaN should be at the top of your list for seeing Florida by bike. With its breathtaking scenery and demanding terrain, the route promises an unforgettable adventure for any cyclist in the Southeast seeking an interesting, community-oriented challenge. Watch it below, and scroll down to learn more about the event coming up at the beginning of February.

Coming up on February 1st, the HuRaCaN Bikepacking Challenge is one of the the most popular and interesting off-road endurance bikepacking grand departs in the Southeast. The original route includes over 100 miles of singletrack, countless remote miles of doubletrack forest roads and abandoned paths, and occasional stretches of pavement. Along the way, riders traverse numerous forests, the Cross Florida Greenway, two mountain bike parks, and some of Florida’s longest and most challenging climbs. There are three route options to choose from on this year’s event:

  • The Original 370-mile HuRaCaN Route: This is the classic and most talked-about option, showcasing some of the most challenging terrain Florida has to offer. Expect everything you’ve heard about the HuRaCaN from your friends plus a few new surprises. This is the route that’s become legendary among riders.
  • The HuRaCaN Lite (330 miles): A more approachable version of the route, designed with minimal singletrack and no river crossings. It combines dirt roads, A-roads, B-roads, bike paths, and some major roads, making it ideal for riders with skinnier tires. A minimum tire width of 45mm is recommended for this option.
  • The HuRaCaN 400: Debuted in 2024, this is the ultimate challenge and the toughest iteration of the route ever conceived. It’s designed to push even the most experienced riders to their limits.
