Hyperlite Mountain Gear makes some of the most impressive lightweight shelters and packs we’ve used, but up until today, they haven’t offered a dedicated one-person shelter for those who travel solo. The new Hyperlite Mountain Gear Mid 1 builds on the design of their UltaMid 2 and 4 shelters but scales it down to accommodate one person with room for gear.

The Mid 1 is a single-walled, trekking pole-style tent with a fully enclosed, bug-proof inside, a single door/vestibule, and a total weight that falls well under 500 grams. According to Hyperlite, the Mid 1 is quick to set up and take down and also quiet and stable in the wind and rain.

It’s constructed from Dyneema composite fabrics, water resistant hardware (including YKK Aquaguard zippers), and No-See-Um mesh on the door panel. There are dual peak vents, magnetic door keepers, six perimeter tie-outs, and it can be set up with a single trekking pole or the optional collapsible pole.
