As long-time fans of Industry Nine’s Enduro S wheels, we’re happy to see the product line expanded to include the new Hydra Enduro S Carbon and 1/1 Enduro Carbon, each with 28 steel spokes and carbon rims. Here are all the details…

The Industry Nine Enduro S wheelset has always been about simplicity and reliability. The flagship alloy version features 28 straight-pull spokes, a very versatile rim width, and the reliable and super-quick Hydra Hub. Aside from being less expensive, the most notable difference from Industry Nine’s System Wheels is that the Enduro S (and Trail S) series uses steel spokes, instead of I9’s signature anodized aluminum spokes. This results in a slightly more supple ride. However, until today, I9 only offered the Enduro S with alloy rims. Based on a lot of customer requests, the newly released Hydra Enduro S Carbon, Hydra Trail S Carbon, 1/1 Enduro S Carbon, and 1/1 Trail S Carbon all marry the suppleness and simplicity of steel spokes with lightweight carbon rims. Note that these aren’t the same carbon rims used in I9’s high-end, fully made in North America System wheels. Instead, they’re the Reynolds-made hookless carbon rims used by I9 for several years prior.

There are a couple key differences between the Hydra and 1/1 wheelsets. The Hydra wheelsets use the blazing fast Hydra hub offering .52° of engagement, of course, while the 1/1 series has the 6-pawl 1/1 hub with 90 points (4°) of engagement. The Hydra line also features straight-pull spokes while the 1/1 get classic J-bend spokes. The Trail versions of both lines feature rims with 28mm internal widths, while the Enduros have a 31mm IW, perfect for tires ranging from 2.3-2.8″ according to I9. We like this width as it’s great for 2.4-2.6″ tires, which hit the sweet spot for trail riding and bikepacking. Here are the details on the two Enduro wheelsets.

Hydra Enduro S Carbon Wheels

Like the alloy version that we long term tested, the new Hydra Enduro S Carbon wheels have the same straight-pull Sapim Race 2.0/1.8/2.0 spokes, a 31mm internal rim width, and the ultra-fast Hydra hub, with 690 points of engagement. And at 1,765 grams, the 29er set weighs about 135 grams less than alloy Enduro S wheels.
