The 27.2mm IRD Airdrop Dropper Seatpost is a cable-free, lever-actuated dropper that comes in a classic satin silver/nickel finish, perfect for vintage MTBs and steel gravel rigs. Find all the details here…
For the record, I’m not very familiar with IRD—apparently, Interloc Racing Design was founded in Winters, California, by Paul Thomasberg in the 1980s, but it’s not located there today, and it’s unclear where they’re currently based. Either way, when I saw the IRD Airdrop Dropper Seatpost pop up in my feed through the SOMA channel, I thought it was worth sharing.

The IRD Airdrop is a cable-free dropper post designed for bikes that don’t have internal routing or for riders who just want a simpler setup—making it a compelling upgrade for vintage mountain bikes or steel gravel bikes that require 27.2mm diameter seatposts. Installation is as easy as it gets: there’s no remote, no housing, and no bar clutter. To use it, pull the lever at the head, weight the saddle to drop it, and then pull again to return it to full height (or anywhere in between). IRD claims that its pneumatic design has a smooth, controlled action.

Available only in a single 27.2mm x 400mm size with 100mm of travel and an offset head, the Airdrop is finished in satin silver/nickel—a welcome break from the sea of black posts and a better match for classic silver component builds. Claimed weight is 610 grams; minimum insertion is 90mm (maximum 190mm), with a 38mm clamp stack and 26.5mm midcap/seal stack to consider for fit.
