In her latest video, second-place finisher Jenny Tough unpacks her Highland Trail 550 (HT550) bike to talk about what worked, what didn’t, and highlight the VIP pieces of kit that helped get her to finish line in under five days. Watch it here, featuring Lola the labradoodle.
Featuring world-class singletrack and dirt roads with stunning views, the Highland Trail loops around 550 miles of the most rugged and remote terrain in the Scottish Highlands. It’s a beautiful route, but you have to put in some serious effort to reap the rewards. The most impressive sections require some hike-a-bike for even the most proficient mountain bikers. The HT550 annual race is one of the O.G. self-supported bikepacking events, and it’s considered one of the hardest races in the calendar. This year, Jenny Tough finished in joint second place in 4 days and 23 hours. Here, Jenny goes through her rig and all the equipment she brought for the ride. Watch it below and find her full the list of gear further down the page.
