Following the release of the carbon model, the Kona Ouroboros alloy is the brand’s latest effort to make their flagship, suspension-corrected, do-it-all gravel bike more accessible at a much lower price point, all while featuring the same great design as the original. Find the complete spec here…
A little over a year after its initial release in carbon, the Kona Ouroboros makes its debut to the lineup in alloy as a more affordable version of the company’s latest suspension corrected gravel offering. Featuring the same design, geometry, and overall ethos, the Kona Ouroboros alloy is available as both a more affordable complete build and a frameset, taking a few thousand dollars off of the price of the bike.

The complete alloy build comes in Gloss Metallic Turismo Olive and retails for $1,899.00 USD with the frameset and rigid fork priced at $1,150.00 USD. The complete comes with a Suntour GVX 32 – 40mm fork, Maxxis 700x50mm Ravager tubeless EXO tires, a 125mm TransX Dropper Post, and a Microshift Sword drivetrain for maximum range and reliability. Like the carbon model, the Kona Ouroboros alloy can fit a 29 x 2.5″ front tire with the rigid fork or a 700 x 50mm front tire with the Suntour 40mm suspension fork. It also features the same mounting positions for bags and a rack on the frame.
Neil spent some significant time with the bike last year and enjoyed his time atop this unique, suspension-corrected gravel rig. With economic factors making it more and more difficult for customers to justify big expenditures, it’s nice to see Kona make a concerted effort to ease the entry into what is clearly one of their most thoughtfully designed models. With a range of options to choose from with regard to spec and silhouette, it’s fair to say we might see more Ouroboros’ out on the trail.

What’s more intriguing is Kona’s effort to keep the approach of the build consistent, despite the change in price and material. Instead of making the bike a completely different package, they’ve opted to give the alloy model a very similar stock build. It still features a wide range 1x drivetrain, suspension fork, and all the same great provisions of the original model, simply with a few thousand knocked off of the asking price. It’s a thoughtfully put together complete from Kona and nice to see that they didn’t simply make a dumbed down alloy frame and call it a day.
