We shared details on the Kruch GTREX last year, but to summarize, it was Kruch’s take on the ultimate urban mountain bike. It was built up around a China-made, TIG-welded 4130 Chromoly steel frame, a matching segmented fork, and 29″ wheels. It had clearance for 29 x 2.3″ tires, internal dropper post routing, sliding dropouts, and external cable routing. It was offered in three sizes, three distinct builds, and completed builds start at $2,150 CAD ($1,540 USD).
When the GTREX started arriving in people’s hands, Kruch saw many of them being loaded up with racks and bikepacking bags. According to their customers, they found it to be comfortable and great on singletrack, so bikepacking naturally followed.

The new limited edition Kruch GTREX Bikepacking Special Edition builds on the original, featuring all the same specs and features, and it adds in the bonus of a custom-made Porcelain Rocket handlebar bag and a frame bag from Wild North Gear. All three makers are within an hour of each other in the Calgary area, so the collaboration came naturally.
The run is limited to just three bikes (one per size), and each one comes with extra bosses on the included rigid fork, an updated parts kit, a slick Glacial Milk paint job, and a Gorex front rack and Anything Cages mounted to the fork legs. Kruch describes it as, “a bike that is ready to roll to the next adventure right out of the box, and comes in at a sub 3K (CAD) price point.”
