In the latest episode of the former world tour rider’s podcast, Mitch Docker discusses Lachlan Morton’s Epic Lap of Australia. Setting the record back in October of 2024, Lachlan’s latest journey had a personal element, as he circumnavigated his home nation. With a support crew that included his wife, Rachel Peck, and first cycling coach, Lachlan smashed the supported record for riding around Australia by a week and some. Averaging 450 kilometers a day(!), Lachlan didn’t just look to crush the existing record but raise money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. He ended up mustering $141,000, and you can still contribute toward his $150,000 target here.
In this relaxed episode of the Life in the Peloton podcast, Lachlan and Mitch discuss the specifics of what it was to take on the record, the logistics of keeping going, and the significance of the trip. It’s always a pleasure to hear Lachlan speak, as he tends to be one of the more introspective and insightful people in the space, and doing so with his wife—who has played a quieter but significant role in his story—was all the better.
