Leah Goldstein and Torin Lackmann were the second and third women to arrive in Antelope Wells in the 2026 Tour Divide. Goldstein, a 57-year-old living in Canada, finished the race just before 2 a.m. Friday in 20 days, 18 hours, and 59 minutes. Lackmann, a 23-year-old from Boulder, arrived just before sunrise in 20 days, 22 hours, and 36 minutes. Both were more than six days behind Meaghan Hackinen’s record-breaking finish time of 14 days, 10 hours, and 12 minutes. Sadly, a shadow fell over the women’s podium when Alyssa Secreto was seriously injured in a collision with a car less than 60 miles from the finish on Thursday morning.

Shock and sadness reverberated through the bikepacking community when news broke that the 35-year-old from Colorado Springs was hit by a driver on Highway 146 and airlifted to a hospital in El Paso to undergo treatment for severe and extensive injuries. Secreto had been riding in second position when the collision happened around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

Molly Murrow, a friend of Secreto who organized a GoFundMe for her recovery, posted on Thursday evening that Secreto had undergone one surgery and had been diagnosed with eight fractured vertebrae, six cracked ribs, a broken arm, internal bleeding, a brain bleed, and lacerations to the kidney, spleen, and liver. She was scheduled for another surgery on Friday.

Murrow wrote that New Mexico High Patrol believes the driver who hit Secreto was traveling between 50 and 60 miles per hour when the collision happened. A report about the incident has not yet been made public as the investigation is ongoing.

“While we are endlessly grateful that Alyssa is stable, her life has been completely upended in an instant,” Murrow wrote. “The road to recovery ahead of her is going to be long and incredibly challenging.”

Lackmann was riding in second position for much of the race until knee pain forced her to backtrack off Indiana Pass and rest for half a day in Del Norte. Both Secreto and Goldstein passed Lackmann while she debated whether to continue. She slowed her pace and iced her knee at every chance as she made her way through New Mexico, determined to finish. She loaded up on her final big meal of the Tour Divide at the McDonald’s in Silver City, including an assortment of cold drinks. She enjoyed a 360-degree horizon of sunset colors on the open road into Separ, approaching Highway 146 as darkness fell.

At 57, Goldstein was participating in her first mountain bike endurance race, but she has a long resume of cycling accomplishments, including becoming the first woman to win the solo division of the Race Across America outright in 2021.

Just 10 days before starting the Tour Divide, Secreto finished as the first woman in the notoriously difficult 365-mile Grand Loop Race in Utah and Colorado. She was aiming to become the first person to complete the double-header events and is listed on Trackleaders as an honorary finisher with a time of 20 days, 2 hours, and 49 minutes.

We send our thoughts to Alyssa as she embarks on her road to recovery. If you wish to support her, you can find her GoFundMe here.
