Giant’s sister brand Liv just released a versatile and affordable new hardtail that looks like it could make a great bike for trail riding and bikepacking. Find details on the Liv Lurra here…

As we all know, bike prices have been skyrocketing since the pandemic started. We’ve seen hardtail frame prices grow from hundreds of dollars to thousands in just a couple of years. We hope that will change, so it’s nice to see the term “affordable hardtail” come back to the fore from Liv, the sister brand of Giant that specializes in bikes and equipment for women. The new Liv Lurra is an aluminum hardtail with some nice angles based on trail-ready geometry, a sharp-looking straight seat tube, and plenty of features and mounting options. There are two versions available that range from $1,500 to $1,850.

2023 Liv Lurra Hardtail

The 2023 Liv Lurra features a lightweight “ALUXX SL-Grade” aluminum frame designed for a 130mm fork, a dropper seatpost, and size-specific wheels—27.5″ for the XS, 27.5 or 29″ for size small, and 29″ for medium and large sizes. The Lurra is clearly made for singletrack trail riders and features modern angles and a downhill prowess. The bike has a 76-76.5° seat tube, a 66° head tube, 438mm chainstays, and a reach ranging from 155-174mm in sizes XS-L.

The Lurra also looks like a nice option for folks looking for a dual-purpose rig for trail riding and bikepacking. It comes equipped with mounts for two water bottle cages and additional mounts on the underside of the top tube, which is perfect for a custom bolt-on frame bag or additional gear storage. It doesn’t have rack mounts, but there are options with axle-mounted racks and rack-mount seat post collars, as well as solutions like the Tailfin Aeropack. The 2023 Liv LURRA comes in two models. The base model, the Lurra 2, features a Giant Crest 34 RCL 130mm fork and a Shimano Deore M4100 1×10 drivetrain with an 11×46-tooth cassette.
