Contributor Nick Jensen of Manzanita Cycles is selling a one-of-a-kind steel hardtail with all of the profits going to support the work of Sky Tavern, an organization that builds trails in the Reno/Lake Tahoe area. Find details here…
If you want to enable the work of a nonprofit trail-building group in a meaningful way and pick up a beautiful new hardtail without the wait, here’s your chance. Nick Jensen from Manzanita Cycles recently built up a stunning 130mm-travel steel hardtail, and he’s selling it to support Sky Tavern, an organization dedicated to building fun mountain bike trails around Reno/Lake Tahoe that are free to ride and open to folks of all ages and abilities. The bike will be on display at Sky Tavern’s MayDay Festival on the 19th of this month, but it’s for sale now, and he’ll ship it anywhere after the festival.
This Manzanita hardtail is designed to fit riders from roughly 5’8″ to 6’0″ tall, depending on body proportions and riding preferences. The frame clears 29 x 2.6 tires and a 36-tooth chainring, sports a 73mm BSA bottom bracket, features two sets of bottle bosses in the main triangle and a three-pack under the down tube, takes a 31.6mm seatpost, and has internal dropper routing. Its seat tube is short enough to allow a 210mm dropper post for saddle heights starting around 720mm. The 430mm chainstay length and 778mm front center offers what Nick consider to be an ideal weight distribution for climbing and descending traction and agile handling. The top tube, down tube, and seat tube are heat-treated chromoly tubes specifically designed to handle the rigors of riding off-road. The seat and chain stays are chromoly tubes custom shaped for the frame, and Paragon Machine Works supplied the CNC-machined head tube and UDH-compatible dropouts.
The build kit comes complete with a selection of components Nick says he’d use on his own bike, including a Rockshox Pike Ultimate fork, Reserve 30|SL aluminum wheels, and Sram G2 R 4-piston brakes, which he thinks are some of the best parts in their respective categories.
