Building on the 29-inch Macro platform, the upcoming Mason Macro32 is a 32-inch version of the UK brand’s adventure-ready aluminum hardtail. With a fork crown-mounted front rack, clearance for 32 x 2.4″ tires, and an adaptable design, the Macro32 looks like an interesting new bikepacking option. Find details here…

Mason launched the original Macro two years ago, calling it a “modern configurable lightweight bikepacking adventure hardtail.” Notable Macro moments include Ella Brown’s first-place finish at the GB Duro, a fifth-place finish at the Hellenic Mountain Race, Angus Young’s Eastern Divide Trail FKT, and more.

Just announced, the new Mason Macro32 builds on the Macro platform but scales it up to run 32-inch wheels. Although it’s not officially available yet, Mason says this isn’t just a concept bike. They’ve been closely watching the 32-inch evolution and plan to keep developing it before rolling out a production version in 2027. The 29-inch Macro remains and is available in all sizes.

Mason Macro32 Tease

The Macro32 draws inspiration from the original Macro, including similar aluminum tubing from Dedacciai in Italy, but the geometry has been completely re-tooled to work for 32-inch wheels. To achieve this, new seatstay, chainstay, and seat tubes were designed with help from the tube makers at Dedacciai, allowing Mason to keep the rider position, bottom bracket height, wheelbase, and trail angles in check.

If the fork and front rack look familiar, that’s because they are the same ones developed specifically for the Mason ISO. With clearance for 29 x 2.6” and 27.5 x 3.0” tires, Mason was able to use the same fork to clear 32-inch mountain bike wheels, while taking advantage of the HotShoe2 fork’s load-bearing Shutter fender and fork crown-mounted Condenser front rack. Because the HotShoe2 fork isn’t too long, the Macro32 didn’t require a super tiny head tube to keep stack height under control, and the frame can accommodate a short-travel suspension fork.

Mason has always worked closely with fellow UK-based wheel brand HUNT, so it’s no surprise to see the two working together again to make the Macro32 a reality. The HUNT Proven 32” development wheelset has boost hub spacing and mountain bike specs, and it will presumably be launched alongside the Macro32. Mason also worked with Tailfin to showcase their upcoming 32-inch adapters for the Tailfin Speedpack.

So, what’s next? Mason-supported Riders Josh Ibbett and Angus Young will ride the final development Macro32 models during the inaugural 1,460-kilometer Taurus Mountain Race this fall. They will refine and tweak as needed, finish frame testing, and launch a pre-order for 2027. The current Macro32 geometry chart for an XL frame is below. Mason will offer the Macro32 in just three sizes: M, L, and XL.
