Helsinki-based Pelago Bicycles just announced a fresh version of their Stavanger, which received a number of bikepacking-friendly updates, including larger tire clearance, more mounts, and a 1×11 Shimano GRX build. Learn more about the new Pelago Stavanger here…

Helsinki’s Pelago Bicycles just announced an updated third version of their Stavanger all-rounder, which they originally envisioned for randonneuring and long-distance commuting. Refreshed with bikepacking and gravel riding in mind, the newest iteration of the Stavanger is designed to be faster, stronger, and more capable, and is now available in an expanded range of sizes from 42cm up to 63cm (XXS to XXL). They call it an “off-the-hook off-the-grid do-it-all machine for the human being.”

Pelago Stavanger

Building on the original Stavanger, which was first released more than a decade ago, the 2022 Pelago Stavanger features a more compact geometry, wider tire clearance (with room for up to 700 x 50mm or 650B x 57mm rubber without fenders), lighter tubing, more mounting points for bottles and gear, thru-axles, a replaceable derailleur hanger, a tapered headtube for carbon fork compatibility. It’s also Di2 and dropper post ready.

Pelago Stavanger Frameset + Geometry

The full-chromoly frame has a 68mm bottom bracket shell, flat mount brake mounts, 12x142mm spacing, four sets of bottle mounts, and rack/fender mounts. The full-chromoly fork has a 58mm rake, flat mount brake mounts, 12x100mm spacing, provisions for a rack and fenders, and three-pack mounts on each blade. Pelago says the updated Stavanger will fit riders from 145 cm (57″) up to 210 cm (82.5″), and the run of frame sizes uses a 30mm seat tube increment, 15-20mm top tube increment, 8-10mm reach increment, and varying chainstay lengths to tune the ride and balance weight between the front and rear wheels. Using the size 57 as an example, it has a 595mm effective top tube, 570mm seat tube (C-T), 618mm stack, 410mm reach, a 72.5° head tube angle, a 73° seat tube angle, and 434mm chainstays.
