In this video and gear list, you can find a detailed look at Meaghan Hackinen’s Silk Road Mountain Race rig and kit straight from the accomplished ultra-racer. For more on this potentially race-winning kit, dive in below…
The seventh edition of the Silk Road Mountain Race begins tomorrow, in Osh, Kyrgyzstan, where 250 riders will tackle a nearly 2,000-kilometer route with around 28,000 meters of climbing to reach the finish in Karakol. It’s the longest and most remote route yet, with minimal pavement and 730 kilometers of freshly added terrain that will take riders to some of the most remote places in Kyrgyzstan. In the video below, you can get a full look at Meaghan Hackinen’s Silk Road Mountain race rig. She’s also been kind enough to provide a full gear list for us.
We asked Meaghan how things were shaping up for her in the downtime before the race, and she said, “I did the Celestial Divide route from Bishkek to Osh and debated continuing but decided to just drive somewhere to get more altitude acclimation in. So, my bike and I hitched a ride in a produce truck, and I’ve been hanging out at 3,000 meters in Sary Mogol. Heading back to Osh today. I’m feeling pretty good! Touring was incredible, and I got a feel for how things work here. Also got hit with a stomach bug, so hopefully that’s done and over with. Just trying to rest up and study the route a bit more before the race kicks off. I also need to really clean my chain (I should have brought a new one to replace after touring) and brake pads before the start.”
