Michelin has launched two new sets of tires that host a variety of features, compounds, and position-specific tread patterns. The new Michelin Wild Performance tires come in both 29″ and 27.5″ offerings with Mixed-Soft and Mixed-Hard rubber compounds designed for aggressive mountain biking. Split between their Wild Performance and E-Wild Performance lines, these new tires feature the brand’s Gum-X and Magi-X technologies, which are said to maximize rolling efficiency and grip in adverse conditions. Let’s dive into the details of both their Wild and E-Wild Performance lineups below.
The Michelin Wild Performance Lineup
Using a double-ply 33 TPI casing, the Michelin Wild Performance tires are offered in 29 x 2.4″ and 2.5″ sizes, with the 2.4″ width available in a rear-specific tread. The Wild Performance tires are also available in 27.5 x 2.4″ and 2.5″ sizes across both the Mixed-Hard and Mixed-Soft compounds. The 27.5″ tires are 1,165 and 1,220 grams, respectively, while the 29″ tires range from 1,165 grams for the 2.4″ rear tire to 1,215 for the Mixed-Soft and 1,260 grams for the Mixed-Hard compound.
The Michelin E-Wild Performance Lineup
While the E-Wild Performance tires don’t differentiate in compounds, they are offered in position-specific tread patterns. The 27.5″ tires have just one 2.6″ width for the front tread pattern, and a 2.6″ and 2.8″ width for the rear. The front tire weighs 1,200 grams, while the rear tires weigh 1,170 and 1,295 grams, respectively. Oddly enough, the inverse is true for the 29″ sizes, with two available front tire widths and just one for the rear. The E-Wild Performance front tires come in 29 x 2.4 and 2.6″ widths, weighing 1,215 and 1,295 grams, while the 2.6″ rear E-Wild tire weighs 1,260 grams.
All of the new Michelin Wild Performance Tires retail for $85.99. For more on these tires, visit MichelinMan.com.
