Today, Silca announced its first set of minimal bikepacking bags, or “fastpacking” bags, as they call them. Find details and our first impressions on the new Silca Grinta Bags here…

While Silca’s latest bag offerings might not replace larger bags for fully loaded bikepacking trips, their minimal design looks ideal for lightweight overnighters this summer or credit card touring where less packing space is needed. The Silca Grinta Bag collection includes a handlebar bag and a roll-top seat pack, and the seat pack uses a BOA attachment inspired by their smaller Mattone Seat Packs closure system for a secure and adjustable fit. Both bags boast a fully welded construction, though the zipper on the handlebar bag means it’s just highly weather-resistant.

Silca Grinta Roll Top Bag

The Silca Grinta Roll Top Bag is a minimal saddle bag with 2-5L of storage. It relies on a BOA closure system to attach to the saddle rails and around the seatpost, a welded construction, and an air bleed valve to purge excess air while packing. The bag has an internal frame to help hold its shape and weighs just 208 grams. Like the Handlebar Bag, the Roll Top Bag is made from CYCLEPET, a PET fabric made from 100% recycled PET bottles.

Before today’s release, I briefly packed and installed the Roll Top Bag and found the BOA system to work surprisingly well. The BOA cable is easy to loop onto and remove from the bag’s hypalon straps, the dial does an excellent job of holding it tightly to the post/saddle, and having used plenty of BOA-equipped cycling shoes, I trust that it wouldn’t loosen up over time. As you can see from my photos, the bag requires a fair amount of vertical space below the saddle, about 6.5″ (16.5cm), so it might not be the cleanest option for small frames or those with limited exposed seatpost. Otherwise, it looks well-built and durable, and it’s nice to see another waterproof roll-top seat pack, even if it’s a little small.

The Silca Grinta Roll Top Bag costs $160 USD and is available now from Silca.cc.

Silca Grinta Handlebar Bag

The Grinta Handlebar Bag is a small burrito-style bag made using the same fabrics and welded construction as the seat pack. It has a single YKK AquaGuard zipper on the front, attaches to the handlebar using Silca’s TPU-coated straps, and includes several foam spacers to leave room for your hands and other cockpit gadgets. It has an internal rigid structure, a head tube strap, and is made from the same recycled CYCLEPET fabric. The Handlebar Bag weighs 160 grams and measures out to 23 x 11 x 11cm (WxHxD).

The Grinta Handlebar Bag appears to be well-made and functional for long day rides and other lightweight adventures. The HDPE liner is fairly flexible and deforms easily against cables or when tightening the straps. Note that the included foam spacers are so thin that I managed to rip one slightly while installing it on a bike. Otherwise, it’s clean and simple, which makes sense for what Silca is going for.

The Grinta Handlebar Bag costs $95 USD and is available from Silca.cc.
