In the third and final episode of “Forgotten Roads,” Alex and Brian tackle a route outside of Los Angeles, California called the Old Ridge Route, an historically significant road project that crosses two fault lines. Watch it here and find a map of their route…

Sponsored by Hammerhead, Forgotten Roads is a three-part self-filmed series documenting gravel rides in California. The aim is to inspire folks to get out and explore their world by bike. Both the first episode and the second have been fun to watch, and they open up ideas for potential bikepacking overnighters. In the final installment of the series, Brian and Alex are close to home but a long way from creature comforts. They ride from Lake Hughes to Lake Castaic just outside of Los Angeles taking on the Old Ridge Route. A 10-hour day of filming and riding in the wind and fog made for the toughest ride of the series. Watch it below and find a map of the route at the bottom of the post.

The Old Ridge Route

“On this route we experienced the smoothest dirt tracks and the roughest sealed roads. The Old Ridge Road is a great look into the past, and is one of the most historically significant construction projects in California’s history.”
