Touted as being “lightweight enough for cross-country yet tough enough for downhill,” the new SPD-compatible OneUp Clip Pedals feature an ultra-thin, lightweight design with a downhill-sized platform and are available in eight vibrant colors. They’re the latest release from the British Columbia-based brand that happens to make our favorite composite flat pedals.

OneUp Clip Pedals

At only 26.8mm, OneUp Clip Pedals claim to be the thinnest mountain bike clip pedals in the world, yet they still appear to have a fairly large platform, measuring 80 x 90mm. OneUp claims that the large platform actively supports the shoe, unlike many other clip pedal platforms that don’t make contact when clipped in, and each has four removable hollow pins allow for further customization of grip and feel. Here’s the full list of specs from OneUp:

  • Weight: 410g with pins (4 pins per side)
  • Thickness: 14.4mm (body), 26.8mm (binding)
  • Size: 80mm x 90mm (W x L)
  • Stance width: 57.5mm (center of clip to outside of crank face)
  • Float: 5° (12° release angle)
  • Cleats: OneUp Cleats (SPD Compatible and includes 1mm cleat spacers for shoe fit tuning)
  • Bearing configuration: Inboard igus™ Bushing and 3x outboard sealed cartridge bearings
  • Axle: Chromoly Steel with Black ED coating
  • Pins: Hollow M5x8mm threaded pins (self cleaning hex through hole)
  • Colors: Black, Red, Green, Blue, Orange, Purple, Grey, Bronze

The OneUp Clip Pedals interface with standard SPD clips, which is a relief. However, they also made their own SPD clips and developed a custom binding mechanism that they say eliminates all front-back and up-down movement and provides 5° of float and a 12° release angle. OneUp also mentions that you can fine-tune the feel with a wider range of spring tension adjustment than Shimano’s SPD line of pedals.

The OneUp Clip Pedals are priced at $159.99, which is $30 more than the $130 Shimano XT platform (PD-M8120), and about $30 less than the XTR platforms (PD-M9120). In terms of weight, the 410-gram OneUps weigh about 20 grams less than the XTs and 15 grams more than the PD-M9120 XTR pedals.
