Pearl Izumi’s new Expedition shoes are designed to be comfortable and versatile enough for trail and gravel rides alike, and look like they could be a good option for bikepacking. Check them out here…
The new Pearl Izumi Expedition shoes are an SPD cycling shoe described as being “equally at home on gravel roads or cross-country trails.” They feature a perforated synthetic leather upper, a single BOA closure, a midfoot velcro strap, and an EVA insert in the heel for vibration dampening.
The Expedition shoe uses a nylon composite sole that is said to offer great pedaling performance without sacrificing walkability. The shoe also has reinforced toe bumpers and chunky TPU lugs on the sole for off-bike grip. They’re available in men’s and women’s specific-sizing; the men’s version is offered in two colors: Phantom (black) and Sunfire/Urban Sage. The women’s comes in an Urban Sage/Pale Pine color.
The Expedition shoe costs $160 USD and is available now from Pearl Izumi or your local dealer. Looking for something stiffer? Pearl Izumi also released the Expedition PRO, which provides the stiffness of a road cycling shoe but with the added benefit of comfort on long gravel rides.
