When I was updating my Surly Karate Monkey’s drivetrain back in 2018, I remember Skyler recommending Race Face’s steel direct-mount chainring as a great option to pair with my Aeffect crankset. Offerings for cheap, durable chainrings are few and far between, so a $20 ring from a BC-based company had me excited. Long story short, that thing went through hell and back, including a ride down the Oregon Timber Trail, and didn’t wince once.
As such, I’m excited to see Race Face launching an updated 12-speed compatible version of this chainring that’s optimized for Shimano 12-speed chains and designed using their CINCH chainring interface. It’s made from heat-treated chromoly steel for higher wear resistance and the cold forming manufacturing process is said to reduce excess material waste.
