Amid the sea of beautiful bikes and shiny components at the MADE bike show in Portland is a quirky booth shared by our friends at Forager Cycles and RatKing Frames. We’ll have more to share from RatKing soon, but we couldn’t wait to show you their new Seattle-made cradle.
The interesting thing about the RatKing Cradle is that it can be attached to the seatpost and used as a support for a rear bag or mounted to the fork steerer and used as a dry bag rack. The Cradle’s machined aluminum mounting system has a 1 1/8″ bore and is approximately 80mm from the center of the steerer to the front of the Cradle. It replaces 20mm of spacers when installed on the steerer tube and can be installed on a 27.2mm seatpost with a shim, based on that measurement. The rack is installed with a 5mm hex and can be adjusted using a 4mm hex wrench and an 8mm open-end wrench, such as the Forager Cycles Link Wrench. It is not intended for us on carbon steerers or seatposts. The platform measures 4.5″ x 9.75″ (115mm x 245mm).
The Cradle has an adjustable tilt to fine tune the position of the platform and work around your specific handlebar setup. It doesn’t matter if you’re running a short stem, have minimal spacer stack, a short head tube, or if you’re using a suspension fork—there’s a good chance the RatKing cradle will work.
The RatKing Cradle and all its mounting hardware weigh in at 265 grams, which is pretty impressive for a handlebar system. Preorders are open now for both black and rainbow chrome cradles at a discounted price of $155 (regularly $175). RatKing plans to have them shipped by December.
